According to Mayor Jason Akers, the City of Monticello completed their fourth City Wide clean up this week, where all city departments dedicated a day to picking up litter and trash from Monticello City Streets.
The event is advertised locally and open to any civic group or citizen that wants to participate, with the cleanup supplies supplied by the City and the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Campaign.
“City employees demonstrate through the cleanup that we care about what our neighborhoods look like for our children and that we won’t ask anyone to do something that we don’t first do ourselves,” Mayor Akers said.
Litter, trash and debris - aside from being unsightly, cause blockages in storm drains and culverts, leading to other problems. The city intends to host another clean up in the first quarter of 2025.
