On Thursday, May 1, people all across the United States observed the 74th annual National Day of Prayer. Drew County was no exception. At noon, a crowd gathered on the front lawn of the Drew County Courthouse to take part in the event.
The service opened with Minister Charles Graham singing an opening song. Graham was followed by Bob Stark, who along with his wife and several other volunteers, organizes the event in Drew County each year. Stark welcomed everyone to the event before passing off the microphone to the local pastors.
Carroll Bryant, Pastor at First Assembly of God, prayed for repentance; Drew County Sheriff Tim Nichols prayed for the local and national government leaders, Ron Billings, American Legion Vice Commander, prayed for our service men and women, Tim Parke, Pastor for New Life Assembly of God prayed for the media, Bob Stark prayed for business owners, Mac Holderfield, Chi Alpha Campus Minister, prayed for the education system, Rev. Darrion Buffington, pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, prayed for The Church, Brandy Davis, Executive Director of Hope Place, prayed for families, and Diane Holloway from Oak Grove Assembly of God, read the National Prayer for America. Melvin Foster, pastor of Holy Devine Spiritual Church, gave the closing prayer.
Stark thanked everyone for their attendance and asked them to consider returning for next year’s National Day of Prayer service.
