The Arkansas Press Association held it’s yearly Better Newspaper Advertising Contest on April 18-19 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Center located on Petit Jean Mountain. Representatives from newpapers, of all sizes, located all across the state of Arkansas were present to take classes, receive awards, and enjoy a meal together.

The Advance-Monticellonian was well represented at the Conference. Publisher Ashley Hogg, Head Graphics Designer Kristie Nall, and Advertising Representative Courtney Raino were able to attend the conference and learn several new ideas to bring back to Monticello.

At the awards banquet, the Advance had a good day racking up a total of 15 awards, which will be listed below:

The staff as a whole placed first in the Best Ad Section-General, and also won first in the Best Ad Section-Magazine. The staff also won first and second places in the Sports Ad category. The staff wrapped up their group awards with a second place finish in Best Advertising Campaign.

Advertising Representative Theresa Perrigen and Nall won first place for their half page and over single ad.

Graphics Designer Adrien Richard placed third in the Best Use of Process Color Category.

Nall won first place, second place, and received an honorable mention in the single ad black and white category. She also won first place in the Best Ad Section-Cover division. Nall also placed third in the Best Festival and Special Event category. She brought home first and third places for Best Employment Ad as well.

The crowning achievement was taking first place in the Smaller Newspapers Sweepstakes. This is the top award given at the APA conference.

“This just shows the talent and hard work that our Advertising and Graphics teams display on a daily basis,” Managing Editor Jeff McDonald said. “I’m very happy for them and proud that I get to work along side such talented individuals on a daily basis.”
