AT&T expands Fiber network in Monticello area

AT&T Fiber is now available to more than 1,000 new residential and business locations in Monticello. The expanded network will give more customers access to super-fast internet speeds up to 5-gigs.

“As a state senator, I’ve been working with my colleagues in the legislature to create more jobs, improve access to broadband, and ensure the vitality of Southeast Arkansas,” Senator Ben Gilmore said. “AT&T’s Fiber expansion in Monticello is great news for residents and businesses in the city.”

All told, more than 1,400 customer locations across Monticello currently have access to AT&T Fiber with more expected soon. Residents can find out when fiber is available in their neighborhood at att.com/notifyme.

“From my first day in the legislature in 2011, one of my top priorities has been expanding broadband in our rural communities,” State Representative Jeff Wardlaw said. “AT&T’s private investment in Monticello will help the city continue to thrive.”

The announcement of new fiber connectivity in Monticello was made during a special event held at the Sadie T. Johnson Community Center.

Drew County Judge Jessie Griffin said AT&T’s investment will help the county remain the economic center of the region.

“Drew County has a diverse economy and is the economic center of southeast Arkansas. AT&T’s fiber expansion in Monticello will help our region maintain its competitive edge,” Judge Griffin stated.

“Our community is a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” Mayor Jason Akers added. “AT&T’s investment in Monticello makes our city even stronger.”

“We are continually working to help close the digital divide by expanding our fiber footprint and delivering ultra-fast internet that keeps residents and businesses connected,” Lisa Lake, vice president for AT&T External Affairs in Arkansas, said. “We are committed to investing in the modern, high-speed network infrastructure necessary in today’s economy.”

From 2019-2023, AT&T invested nearly $1.2 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in Arkansas.
