Benny R. Dunlap, 89

Benny R. Dunlap, 89, of Burlington, Wash., died at his home on October 27, 2023. He was born November 7, 1933 in the Green Hill community. 

He attended Arkansas A&M (UAM) and graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Arkansas, (Fayetteville). He designed freeways in Kansas City, Mo. and Seattle, Wash. and retired from the Boeing Company as principal facilities engineer in 1995. Ben met June Leeper in Kansas City, Mo. and were happily married for 61 years. They loved to travel and camp in their RV. They enjoyed visits with their kids and grandchildren at their home in Clear Lake, Wash. 

Ben enjoyed his periodic visits to Drew County for the Drew Central reunions to visit his classmates, relatives, and friends.

Survivors include his son, David (Jackie) of Lynnwood, Wash.; granddaughters, Kelly Dunlap, Anna (Scott) Born, Jennifer Thurnau (Tim Clark), 3 great-grandchildren, and sister, Dixie Jordan of Oxford, MS.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, June, his parents, Cecil and Bertie (McKinstry) Dunlap, a son, Randall, and sisters, Martha Sue McClain of Monticello, Maxine Harris of Crossett, and Juanita Nowlen of Yulee, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Wash. or to the Helping Hands Food Bank in Sedro-Woolley, Wash.

A private funeral service will be held November 10, at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Wash.
