The Monticello Billies travelled to Star City on Friday night as the opponent for the Star City Bulldogs on their Homecoming night.
Star City would come into Friday night’s game 0-5 on the year and 0-2 in 8-4A Conference play with the Billies coming in with an overall record of 1-4 and 0-2 in conference play.
After the Homecoming festivities before the contest, Star City and Monticello would meet in the center of the field for the opening coin toss that was won by the Bulldogs who elected to receive the ball to begin the contest.
Jude Parke would kick the ball away for the Billies with Star City getting a 10 yard return from their own 17 to the 27.
The Bulldogs would move the ball down to the Monticello 30 yard line, but after three consecutive incomplete passes, the Bulldogs would turn the ball over on downs.
After a run by Joseph Accelus for no gain and a false start penalty the moved the ball back to Monticello’s 25, Accelus would gain 12 yards on the next carry.
Accelus would move the ball into Bulldog territory on the next carry on a 35 yard gain to the Bulldog 28.
After a two yard gain followed by a second false start that moved the ball back to the Bulldog 31, Hudson Harvey would connect with Jax Rawls for a 29 yard gain to the Bulldog two.
Jackson Hines would take the next snap and cover the two yards for the Billie score.
Parke would add the extra point to give the Billies a 7-0 lead with 4:37 remaining in the first quarter.
Sater City would be forced to punt on their next possession with Monticello taking over at their own 16.
Monticello would have to punt on their possession with the snap being low to Parke who was forced to attempt to kick the ball which was fumbled with Star City recovering the ball by Carter Dean for the Bulldog touchdown.
Star City added the extra point to tie the contest 7-7 with seven seconds remaining in the quarter.
Montcello would begin the next drive at their own 20 after the kickoff went into the endzone for a touchback.
Hines would gain 14 yards to the first play to end the first quarter.
Accelus would move the ball to the Bulldog 47 and on the next play, Hines would break free for the 47 yard score.
After the missed extra point, the Billies led 13-7.
After the next punt by Star City, Monticello would get to the endzone for the third time on a pass from Harvey to Rawls for 73 yards.
Parke added the extra point to lead 20-7.
After another punt from Star City, Monticello would add to the lead on the next possession after a 14 yard run by Accelus followed by a kick by Parke extended the lead to 27-7.
Monticello would get a turnover on a Bulldog fumble on the next Star City possession and on the first play of the drive, Accelus would break free for a 52 yard touchdown run.
Parke added the extra point for a 34-7 lead.
Star City would get the final score before the half on an interception and an extra point cut the lead to 34-14.
Monticello would score three touchdowns in the second half to put the game under the “Sportsmanship Rule” on an eight yard run by Hines, a 60 yard run by Accelus and one yard run by Caleb Fisher along with two-point conversions by Accelus and Fisher.
Star City would get two scores in the second half with the final score being set at 56-28.
With the loss, Star City would fall to 0-6 (0-3) on the season with Monticello improving to 2-4 (1-3).
The Billies will turn their attention to next Friday night after participating in Homecoming festivities all week with the undefeated Stuttgart Ricebirds coming to Hyatt Field.
Stuttgart enters Friday’s game after defeating DeWitt last week 56-28 and in six contests is averaging almost 51 points per game.
The Billies and Ricebirds will kickoff at 7 pm on Friday with the Homecoming court being presented before the game.
