Carroll Womack Dew, D.D.S, passed away peacefully on June 7,at the age of 81. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, dentist, military officer, teacher, and man of faith, Carroll lived a life marked by service, integrity, and deep love for others.

Born on July 30, 1944, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, Carroll was raised in Pine Bluff. He attended Arkansas A&M College, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis in 1972.

Following graduation, Carroll served one year with the United States Public Health Service in Luray, Virginia. He then practiced dentistry in Pine Bluff for four years before beginning a distinguished thirty-year career with the Veterans Administration Dental Service. His career took him from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Jackson, Mississippi, where he ultimately served as Chief of Dental Services. In addition to his clinical work, he shared his knowledge and passion for dentistry by teaching part-time at the University of Mississippi Dental School.

Carroll’s commitment to service extended beyond his profession. While attending dental school, he served six years in the Arkansas Air National Guard, followed by twenty-six years in the Louisiana and Mississippi Army National Guards. After thirty-two years of combined military service, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

A committed Christian throughout his life, Carroll faithfully served in leadership roles in the churches he called home. For many years, he was a dedicated elder at Highlands Presbyterian Church, where he exemplified servant leadership and steadfast faith.

Above all else, Carroll cherished his family. He treasured his beloved wife of 60 years, Anne Marie Echols Dew, and was deeply devoted to his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved and supporting them in every stage of life.

Carroll found fulfillment in caring for veterans, mentoring dental students, and serving his country. He was known and will be remembered for his trade-mark smile, and his kindness, humility, and genuine concern for others. Whether in his dental practice, military service, church, or community, he sought to honor God through serving people.

Outside of his many professional and community commitments, Carroll embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved reading, golfing, running, working out, and especially riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He and Anne enjoyed traveling together, particularly hiking in the mountains and watching sunsets along the beach.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson and Marie Dew.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Marie Echols Dew; his sons, Bryan Dew (Betty) and Alan Dew (Shay); his daughter, Angela Kozlowski (Krys); and his cherished grandchildren, Emily Dew Crotty (Gus), Jacob Dew, Vincent Kozlowski, and Seraphina Kozlowski.

Carroll’s life was a testament to faith, service, devotion, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland, MS, with arrangements by Sebrell Funeral Home.
