The American Ambulance Association (AAA) recently announced the winners of the inaugural Vanguard Award, and Monticello’s Sherry Carson was one the the recipients.

The Vanguards honor those who have blazed the trail for fellow women EMS professionals, and the winners represent a diverse group of dedicated individuals who have made significant contributions to mobile healthcare.

“We are thrilled to recognize these trailblazers who have paved the way for women in EMS,” said Randy Strozyk, President of AAA. “Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have not only elevated their own careers, but they have also helped advance the entire profession.”

The Vanguard Awards are presented in collaboration with Women in Emergency Services (WiES), a newly founded organization dedicated to supporting and advancing women’s careers in the emergency services industry though empowerment, networking, mentorship, and education.

Carson, president of Monticello Ambulance Service, Inc., released the following statement regarding the Vanguard Awards:

Robin Sharma said “Working diligently without concern for the rewards is the very behavior that brings rewards.” We do not do what we do for the awards but being recognized with a Vanguard Award alongside this group of amazing women in EMS is so humbling and gratifying.

Thank you to all who made this award possible and for recognizing the huge role women play in EMS. It has caused me to reflect on the memories, the friendships, the education, the long draining hours, the saves, the losses, the good times and the bad, the blessings, the love and the bond shared by the EMS family.

Thank you to my family and friends for your love and encouragement.

Thank you to my sons, Scott And Shane for the sacrifices you had to make when Mom was making ambulance calls 24/7. Thank you to my teachers, mentors, coworkers, employees, partners and patients through the years.

Thank you God for choosing me to be a part of the EMS family; for your blessings and guidance in my life always. It has been an honor to serve Arkansas, Monticello and Drew County for over 50 years.  Thank you to the AAA and WiES for this amazing award.
