City begins water meter replacement and modernization

Posted

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the City has begun replacing roughly 790 non-functioning or poorly functioning water meters located in the city water system.

As of this week, roughly 200 of the 790 have been replaced. Some of the meters that have been removed and replaced date back to manufacturing dates from the 1930’s.

The new meters will provide a more accurate reading of gallons used and are also technically capable of integrating to the AMI system. This system will collect water usage data accurately and remotely without a water employee having to drive by and collect the data.

This project is yet another water infrastructure related project that the city will complete in 2026.
