According to Monticello Mayor, Jason Akers, the sixth annual first responders day at MES was held Wednesday, May 14.
“We created this program so that children could get to know first responders on a personal basis,” Mayor Akers said. “Children are often very intimidated when they have to interact with police fire or EMS personnel and we want to reduce that barrier. We want them to have some familiarity and know that first responders are here to serve and protect them. The end goal is to make any interactions our kids may have be less traumatic.”
The event features all local ambulance services and the police and fire departments.
