According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the City of Monticello has received authorization to proceed with accepting bids for $324,000 in improvements to the Monticello Sports Complex.

The project is funded by a grant that was applied for and obtained by the Mayor’s Office.

The improvements will consist of a new walking track that will circle a large portion of the complex and will connect both the West and East sides of the complex via sidewalks, replacing the dirt and often muddy connector. Walkways will be added throughout the complex to improve connectivity to dugouts as well.

“Our goal is to complete the Sports Complex and do so using as much grant money as possible,” said Akers.

Bids will open on Thursday, June 4, at 2 p.m. in the Monticello City Hall Council Chambers. Local contractors are encouraged to apply.
