The Colonel David Love Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution , recently recognized and celebrated its DAR Good Citizens for 2023 from Drew Central and Monticello High Schools.

The Good Citizens program is intended to encourage and reward outstanding high school seniors that exemplify the qualities of good citizenship, including dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Program Co-Chairs Susan Musick and Sally Kirst introduced Ali Jo Cruce and Brinkley Taylor to Chapter members and presented them with pins, certificates and a cash award.

Ali Jo Cruce, a senior and the daughter of Wayne and Sissi Cruce, is the DAR Good Citizen awardee from Drew Central High.  Ali Jo competes with the Lady Pirate basketball, softball and track teams, as well as the High School rodeo team.  She is on track to be an honor graduate with a 4.0 gpa and to be a medical completer at the Occupational Educational Center. Ali Jo told DAR members that her favorite thing to do is to carry our country’s flag around the rodeo arena before each rodeo, following the national anthem.

Brinkley Taylor, a senior at Monticello High, and daughter of Jeff and Magan Taylor was also recognized. Brinkley is a community-minded leader, serving as the MHS student council president and participating in numerous community services through her EAST class, Beta Club, and National Honors Society work. She spoke of her cousin’s service in the Marine Corps and how he has inspired her and given her a deeper appreciation for patriotism and what it means to be a patriotic citizen.
