Drew Memorial Health System now offers the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, the latest advancement that helps surgeons perform knee replacement surgery tailored to each patient to get patients back to life faster.

In 2019, approximately 900,000 primary knee replacements were performed in the United States. Patients are often looking for the latest technology as they aim for improved outcomes, increased movement, and shortened recovery time. However, every knee is different, as is every patient requiring a knee replacement procedure.

"We currently have two orthopedic surgeons who see patients in our Outpatient Specialty Care Center. Dr. Massanelli has been seeing patients here since 1999 and started performing hip and knee replacements at DMHS last year. We are excited to expand our orthopedic service line with advanced technology", said Jenny Guthrie, Chief Operating Officer of Drew Memorial Health System.

Dr. Gregg Massanelli will be using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, a technology that helps surgeons perform a knee replacement using data tailored to each patient's anatomy. This technology is designed to help ensure predictable results, improve outcomes, increase mobility, and helps patients recover faster.

"This new technology will allow our patients to return to their normal lives much quicker. In addition, the technology will provide better outcomes, shorter recovery times, and fewer complications. It is a win-win for our patients, our staff, and our hospital", said Massanelli.

The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution works in tandem with the ATTUNE® Knee System, an innovative knee implant designed to work more closely with an individual patient's anatomy. The ATTUNE Knee can help increase stability and reduce pain, providing a better range of motion and preventing the unstable feeling some patients experience during everyday activities, such as bending and walking up and down stairs. With these systems together, there is now an option for patients seeking the latest technology designed to provide digital precision in knee replacement.

"We are very excited to be able to provide this new innovative approach to knee replacement surgery at Drew Memorial Hospital," said Scott Barrileaux, CEO of Drew Memorial Health System.
