Dorothy Jean Hawkins Smallwood, 83, of Monticello, passed away, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at The Woods Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. She was born on December 14, 1942, in Bluffton to the late Eldridge Clinton Hawkins and Maudie Louise Pickens Hawkins. Dorothy was a wonderful cook. She worked for Dumas High School as a cafeteria worker for over 18 years. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time in the mountains. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and pretty plants. Her biggest joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Blankenship; and one sister, Velda Carr.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Blankenship and Cathy Hales; grandchildren, Douglas Blankenship (Jean) of Dyersburg, Tenn.; Candice Harvey (Rick) of Monticello; Chris Owen (Laura) of Monticello, AR; Jamie Hammill (Levi) of Monticello; Katelyn Lawson  (Josh) of Little Rock; thirteen great grandchildren, Beau Blankenship, Caroline Blankenship, Jaci Hammil, Luke Hammil, Aaden Hammil, Keaston Hammil, Colton Bittle, Dalton Jordan, Anna-Jewel Jordan, Drake Harvey, Jake Owen, Zack Owen, and Lilah Owen; nine siblings, Mary Burr of Star City, Thomas Hawkins of Star City, Shelby Millholland of Dumas, Sharon Harmon of Monticello, Patricia Derry of North Carolina, Ronny Hawkins, of Gould, Jimmy Hawkins of Star City,  Jane Smallwood of Dumas, Debra Thaxton, LA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Graveside services were held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Tyro Cemetery in Tyro, with Rick Harvey officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Arkansas Chapter, 320 Executive Court, Ste. 302, Little Rock, AR 72205-4545.
