Drew Central to honor First Responders/Military Friday night

The Drew Central Pirates are planning a tailgate party and festivities before the Drew Central Pirates home opener on Friday night.

In Honor of September 11, Drew Central will honor the tragic events of September 11, 2001 by honoring First Responders and Military personnel during  tailgating festivities with free hamburgers and hotdogs sponsored by Union Bank and Commercial Bank from 5 to 6:15 pm.

Military and First Responders will be recognized on the football field at 6:35 followed by the presentation of colors at 6:40.

The Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem are scheduled for 6:45 by the DC Marching Band.

The Ceremonial Game Ball will arrive around 6:50 pm, being flown in by Pafford EMS followed by the honorary captain’s coin toss at 6:55 by Military and First Responders.

The Pirates will host the Star City Bulldogs at MIke Pennington Stadium, marking the first home game for head coach Joe Spatafora.

The Pirates are coming off an off week after falling on the road on August 28 at Crossett 33-18.

The Pirates would have some successful offensive plays against the Eagles, scoring three touchdowns in the contest, two on the ground and one on a nine-yard pass from Chase Knowles to Ashton Govan.

Alex Pitts would have one rushing touchdown with Cam Sanders scoring the other rushing touchdown finishing with 98 yards rushing and four tackles and was the Pirate Player of the Week.

Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
