Tuesday, November 5, Election Day 2024 has come to an end. Voters in Drew County cast a total of 6,382 votes in the General Election with 163 Absentee Votes, 4,644 Early Votes, and 1,575 votes cast on election day. In the county, there were three positions contested along with congressional seats, senate seats, State Treasurer, and Supreme Court Justice positions. All numbers provided below only reflect numbers from Drew County voters as all counties in the state have not reported, and the race for President of the United States is still undecided.
The first local contest was for Justice of the Peace District 6. The contest saw incumbent Donna Harton Usry go head-to-head with Yvonda Jones. Jones received 234 votes while Usry received 584 votes, securing the District 6 Justice of the Peace seat.
The District 7 Justice of the Peace seat was also contested as incumbent Joe Williams, Jr. faced Craig Kaminicki. Kaminicki would receive 555 votes and unseat Williams who received 331 votes.
Monticello City Council Ward 2 Position 2 saw incumbent Claudia Hartness face Brandon Hogg. Hogg received 334 votes but was unable to unseat Hartness who received 402 votes.
The city of Wilmar elected to adopt a one-cent sales tax increase 95 to 64.
Tillar elected to adopt a two percent local sales and use tax 45-13.
Drew County voters voted in favor of Issue No. 1 by a count of 5,501-705. This will allow lottery scholarship funds to be made available for citizens who elect to attend trade schools rather than universities.
Voters in the county also voted in favor of Issue No. 2 which deals with the Pope County Casino. The issue received 3,554 in favor versus 2,637 against.
U.S. Congress District 04 saw incumbent Bruce Westerman face off against Risie Howard. Westman received 4,310 votes versus Howard’s 1,898.
The State Treasurer race saw incumbent John Thurston face off against Michael Pakko and John Pagan. Thurston received 4,194 votes, Pagan received 1,883 votes, and Pakko received 173 votes.
In the State Senate District 01 race, Asher Williams challenged incumbent Ben Gilmore. Gilmore received 4,353 votes versus Williams’ 1,615 votes.
The State Representative District 94 race saw Annette Taylor challenge incumbent Jeff Wardlaw. Wardlaw received 3,989 votes to Taylor’s 2,040 votes.
The State Supreme Court Justice Position 1 race saw Rhonda Wood and Karen Baker face off. Baker received 3,426 votes compared to 2,406 votes for Wood.
For the U.S. Presidential race, Drew County voters cast 4,195 votes for former president Donald Trump, and 2,046 votes were cast for Vice President Kamala Harris.
