The Drew County Quorum Court met Monday, June 9, with County Judge Jessie Griffin calling the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Justices of the Peace Zachary Hill and Craig Kaminicki were absent.

Judge Griffin opened the meeting with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance before the agenda was amended to include a presentation from SEARK Dumpsters.

In his comments, Judge Griffin reported that several county roads are scheduled for repairs this summer. He also noted ongoing efforts to replace damaged or missing stop signs and road signs across the county. Additionally, he reminded the public about the upcoming countywide bulk pickup program.

During public comments, resident William Sanson raised concerns about the use of county equipment and gravel. He questioned why gravel had been used to maintain Yount Lane—a road he claimed received county support—while he was required to supply materials for his own private lane.

The court also discussed the possibility of Drew County assuming full control of Luke's County Lane.

In other business, justices unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the Arkansas 205 Commission and encouraged local schools and libraries to participate in the 205th-anniversary celebration of the state.

An ordinance was approved to replace the carpet in the Public Defender’s Office.

Brittany Caldwell of SEARK Dumpsters addressed the court about rising landfill fees, warning that continued increases may force her and her husband to shut down their local sanitation business. Her remarks prompted a lengthy discussion on the recurring issue of landfill costs.

A public meeting of the Sanitation Commission is scheduled for Monday, June 16, at 5 p.m. in the Club Room at the Drew County Courthouse.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
