Educator Spotlight: Greg Loveless

Posted

Mr. Loveless is a very admired instructor in the Monticello School District at the OEC. He has been teaching for 9 years. While only teaching for 9 years, he has 30 years of construction experience. He has 5 of his own children: 3 boys and 2 girls. His favorite teaching memory is from when he took his students to compete at Skills USA, and Sydney Fallon placed first in the state. As he said, “I love kids. Dogs and kids love me, so I love them back.” Mr. Loveless started his teaching career because of his love for kids. Even though he didn’t start off his adult life teaching, he learned through time spent with Awana kids at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church that he loved teaching kids.

The kids love him just as much. Many of his present students say they have learned a lot from him and his class. Connor Pippin was asked what he is currently learning, what life lessons he's learned, and his favorite thing about Mr. Loveless. He said, “I’m currently learning how to build stuff.” He also said he learned the importance of safety while working in the shop. His favorite thing about Mr. Loveless is simple: “Mr. Loveless in general.” Ryan Oltmann was asked the same questions and said he is currently learning the lathe, his life lesson learned is how to follow instructions correctly, and his favorite thing about his teacher is “his calmness and how he cares about every student.” Parker Bowman also shared his experiences. He is currently learning how to build a shed. His life lesson learned is “hard work pays off.”

Bowman, Oltmann, and Dakota Bostian all had the same thing to say: “He has the best mustache.” Mr Loveless and his amazing mustache have influenced many of his students.

Former student Sydney Fallon shared some of her favorite memories. “During my senior year, I went with him on a trip to Skills USA and won the state in carpentry display. We also ate at Cracker Barrel while we were at the conference, and I had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone. He mentored me a lot during my senior year, and I really miss the carpentry shop.” All these students adore Mr. Loveless, and he adores them just as much.

Mr. Loveless’s impact reaches far beyond the walls of the classroom or the projects built in his shop. With decades of real-world experience and a genuine passion for working with young people, he has created an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired. Whether it’s teaching technical skills, emphasizing safety and responsibility, or simply showing kindness and care, he leaves a lasting impression on everyone he teaches. His students’ success—both in competitions and in life—is a reflection of his dedication.

It’s clear that Mr. Loveless isn’t just building projects; he’s building confidence, character, and futures.
