On Saturday, June 10, an annual event for first responders was held at the Church of God in Christ Revival Center at 12 p.m. The event was held to honor the workers who risk their lives to help the community.

Food was served at the event and a raffle was held to give out prizes to the first responders. The police chief, fire chief, and sheriff were also given certificates of appreciation to be handed out to the first responders.

Speeches were given by Mayor Jason Akers, Sheriff Tim Nichols, Police Chief Carlos Garcia, and Assistant Fire Chief Joey Norton as well as Nancy Bowman, the event organizer.

"First responders are more than a job, it is a calling", said Bowman.

The event began with the national anthem, a prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting concluded with eating and giving out the raffle prizes.
