Gary W. Potts, age 71

Gary W. Potts, age 71, of Monticello, passed away on December 22, 2023. He was born in Bossier City, La. on September 27, 1952 to the late James H. Potts and Hazel I. (Sanders) Potts.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents Cleve and Fanny Potts and William and Emma Sanders and a step-daughter Brandie Taylor Elliott.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth Potts (Debra) of Carthage, Texas; brother Kelvin Potts (Cindy) of Mustang, Okla.; brother Norman Potts (Judy) of Winnsboro, Texas; brother Alan Potts (Nicole) of Monticello; sister Robin Bays (David) of Fayetteville, Pa.; stepson Jesse Taylor (Ashley) of Monticello; 6 step-grandchildren Dustin Durham, Jack Elliott (Anna), Brooklyn Taylor, Morgan Taylor, and Jacob Taylor; along with two dear friends, his ex-wife Susan Potts of Monticello and Irma Dietert of Lakeland, Fla.

Gary graduated from Monticello High School and went on to graduate at the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he was in ROTC. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant stationed in Arizona as a Missile Launch Officer. Gary later graduated with his law degree from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He practiced law in Monticello as a private attorney and worked for the public defender’s office. Gary loved his family and friends. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, and traveling. He will be missed by so many.
