She was born 10 miles out of Charleston in a log cabin. When she was five years old, moved with her parents, Arthur and Emer Marcussen and sister Pauline, in a covered wagon, to Monticello. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1942. After graduation she went to work in the Monticello Cotton Mill. When WWII broke out, she moved and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area shipyards welding Liberty Ships for the US Navy. She was one of the few women to master the overhead weld process. She returned to Monticello where she met and married Woodrow Watts, a Navy Petty Officer. They moved to Norfolk, Va. where Gladys went back to work welding war ships.
In 1949 they moved to Albuquerque NM where they raised their family. She retired from Siemens in Albuquerque. Gladys absolutely loved playing BINGO; traveling; and bowling in national tournaments.
We are forever grateful for a lifetime of love, support, laughter, and most importantly the memories she left. Go peacefully into God’s loving hands.
Funeral services and burial are pending.
