Immanuel Baptist Church of Monticello’s food pantry began as a small food closet, but in 2004, it expanded to a food pantry. Once the church building was completed, the small outbuilding that was being used as the church office was converted to the food pantry.
Over the years it has expanded with donations and grants, and now has a full walk-in cooler, six chest freezers, and a refrigerator along with multiple shelves. IBC works with the Arkansas Food Bank in Little Rock which offers food at a discount. They also buy locally and get donations from local farmers seasonally. Through Feeding America, they receive donations from the Monticello Walmart.
Since the beginning of the food pantry, they have had the help of multiple volunteers. The volunteers help with picking up donations and handing out food during pick-up. Pick-up takes place every other week on Monday and Thursday. They service an average of 90 individuals. They also distribute food from the Commodities Supplemental Food Program to 156 seniors in Drew County each month.
