John Douglas Mahurin. 92, of Star City peacefully departed this life and entered Heavens Gates on January 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.
John was born July 31, 1932 in Oden to the late EJ Mahurin and Catherine Pruitt Mahurin. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War with the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class. He also served the Grand Lodge of AR for 50 years and was a Master Mason. He owned and operated D&D Auto Parts in Dumas for 30 years and was a pillar to the community. He retired from his parts business in 1997.
He loved spending time at the lake with family and then later park hosting as a Good Sam Member. He enjoyed watching football, traveling, working in his yard, and spending time with family. He loved the Lord as a devoted Christian and was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Star City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Fortenberry Mahurin; his second wife, Mary Lou Hunter Mahurin; two brothers, Clarence Mahurin and Don Mahurin; and a grand-daughter, Morgan Farmer.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandy (Mike) Cockrell of Rogers, Jonie (Tommy) Free of Rock Springs, and Kim (Bobby) Wise of Ocala, Fla. He was “Papa” to eight grandchildren, Sara (Collin) Young of Overland Park, Kan., Amy (Patrick) Mitchell of Rogers, Ross Farmer of Dumas, Ann Carol Farmer of Fayetteville, Dr. Megan Wise (Anthony) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Aubrey Wise (Paul) of Hawthorne, Fla., Lindsey (Britt) Burris, and Stephanie (Tyler) Spencer, both of Rock Springs. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren-Rylie Cate and Ella Burris; Isabella and Bentley Spencer; Ellia, Marys, and Taj Mitchell; and Ensley, Lucca, and Gabe Young.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Griffin Funeral Service of Star City. Visitation was before the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Bro. Tyler McKinney officiated. Burial followed at Walnut Lake Cemetery in Dumas. Pallbearers were Tommy Free, Britt Burris, Murphy Thomas, Jack Hipps, Steve Orr and Robert Wilson Floyd.
