Joyce Donaldson, 76

Posted

Joyce Donaldson, 76, of Monticello, passed away on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
Joyce's early dreams and aspirations of growing up in the tiny community of Selma were all about family and children. Where other young girls might have dreamed of escaping the rural life of Selma, through fortune or fame, Joyce's dreams were more down to earth and guided by her loving heart. Though Joyce never sought fortune, she did get more fame than she bargained for when she said ''I do'' and hitched a life-long ride with truck driver and Monticello socialite George Ervin Donaldson. That 53-year romance fulfilled her dreams of being a supportive loving wife and a doting, supportive mother to three daughters, Teresa Taylor of Greenwood, Georgie Mae Fleming of Monticello and Elizabeth Donaldson of Reno.
In her work life, Joyce was recognized for her work ethic and reliability during her many years at Duracraft and then later at McKiever Packing but she was most happy and content just to be the central figure in the lives of her three beautiful grandchildren; Jordan Kelley and husband Patrick of Barling, Teresa Fleming and Jamie Johnson of Monticello; five great grandchildren, Makynli Meadows, Avery Johnson, Kayben Johnson, Olivia Adams and Bennet Kelley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Ruby and Johnny Lindsey; sisters Louise Lindsey, Donna Pricket and Kathrine Donaldson. She is survived by sisters Velma Lindsey and Ouida Carter both of Monticello and two son in laws, Lee Fleming of Monticello and Jim Taylor of Greenwood.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Graveside services will be held at Flat Creek Cemetery in Fountain Hill at 3 p.m. following the viewing.
