After the 7th Grade Junior Billies were defeated by the Warren 7th Grade Lumberjacks, the Monticello Junior Billies would take the field to host the Warren Junior Lumberjacks.
Monticello would win the coin toss and would defer to the second half.
Jon Davis Vanderzwalm would kick the ball to the Warren 25 with Warren returning the ball to the Monticello 43 to begin their first drive of the contest.
Warren would get on the board on the drive after a 18-yard touchdown pass but would not convert the two-point try to take a 6-0 lead.
Monticello would start their drive at their own 49.
Jonathan Barefield would carry the ball on every play of the drive, covering the 51 yards for the touchdown.
Vanderzwalm would add the extra point to give Monticello a 7-6 lead.
Warren’s next possession would carry over into the second half with the Junior Lumberjacks punting the ball away to Monticello.
The Junior Billies would start their drive at the Warren 33 and would move the ball down to the six with Barefield taking the ball in from the six for his second touchdown of the contest.
Vanderzwalm’s kick was good to give Monticello a 14-6 lead.
After a touchback on the kickoff, it would take Warren one play to find the end zone on an 89-yard touchdown pass.
The two-point conversion failed as the Junior Lumberjacks cut the lead to 14-12.
Monticello added a third touchdown on their next drive after a 39-yard run by Cayden Daniels increased the Junior Billie lead to 20-12.
On Warren’s final drive of the half, the Junior Lumberjacks would start their drive at their own 29 and would drive the field down to the Monticello seven yardline.
With 19 seconds remaining in the half, Warren would attempt a touchdown pass that would be intercepted by Monticello’s Lane Reid to end the Junior Lumberjack drive.
After the turnover, Monticello would start at their own 20 where Jonathan Grissom would take a knee to send the game into halftime.
The Junior Billies would receive the ball to begin the second half and would begin the drive at the Warren 48 after Monticello fell on the Warren attempted onside kick.
Barefield would take the handoff from the 48 and would outrun the field for the 48-yard touchdown run.
Barefield would also take the ball in for the two-point conversion to put the Junior Billies up 28-12.
Warren would start their first drive of the second half at their own 30 and after an incomplete pass, Javion Lewis and Parker Nowlen would combine for a sack for a 10-yard loss.
Warren would punt the ball away on the drive with Monticello taking over at their own 41.
Daniels would get the handoff for the 59-yard touchdown run to put the Junior Billies up 34-12 after the missed extra point.
Warren’s next drive would end at the Monticello 42 after Kaghan Crosswhite intercepted the Junior Lumberjack pass for the turnover.
Monticello’s drive would extend into the fourth quarter with Monticello ending the third quarter on the Warren 18.
After reversing the field, Barefield would connect with Javion Lewis for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Vanderzwalm would add the extra point to increase the Junior Billie lead to 41-12.
Warren would get a touchdown on their next possession on a 47-yard touchdown pass to cut the Monticello lead 41-18 with 6:37 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Monticello would get their final touchdown of the contest on the next possession after beginning their drive at the Warren 36.
Going back to the run, the Junior Billies would move the ball down into the redzone.
After two false start penalties, Dawson Loyd would take the ball in from seven yards out for the score.
Vanderzwalm added the extra point to increase the lead to 48-18.
Warren would get their final touchdown on their next drive to set up the final score of 48-24.
With the win, Monticello moves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The Junior Billies will travel to Star City on Thursday with a kickoff set for 6:30 pm.
