Junior Billies win 28-22

The Monticello Junior Billies picked up a road win on Thursday, October 6, with a 28-22 win over the Hamburg Junior Lions in Hamburg.

After winning the coin toss and electing to defer to the second half, the Billies would get the first turnover of the contest after recovering a fumble on the second play of the contest. 

The Junior Billies would also turn the ball over on a fumble on their first series but Jayden Rhodes would get the Billies the Ball back before the end of the quarter on an interception. 

The first score of the contest would come in the second quarter after a 35-yard pass from Jackson Hines to Joseph Accelus gave the Billies a 6-0 lead. Hines added the two point play for the 8-0 lead. 

Monticello would add a second score before the end of the half on a one-yard run by Hines. The two-point conversion failed with the Billies holding a 14-0 lead at the half. 

Monticello would receive the ball to start the second half, but would turn the ball over on the first play from scrimmage. 

Hamburg took advantage of the turnover, scoring on their drive to cut the lead to 14-7, but Monticello answered the score on the next possession on a run by Rhodes. Monticello led 22-7 after the two-point conversion. 

Hamburg would score on their next possession on a 54-yard drive on a single pass to cover the distance. After the extra-point the lead was cut to 22-14. 

Monticello would get their final score of the contest on their next possession after beginning their drive on the Hamburg 46, Accelius would cover the 46 yards in two plays for the score. 

The two-point conversion was not successful as the Junior Billies extended their lead to 28-14. 

Hamburg would get one more score in the contest to set up the final of 28-21 and would also have one more possession but would turn the ball over on downs allowing Monticello to kneel for the win. 

JACKSON HINES (left), JOSEPH ACCELUS (center), and JAYDEN RHODES (right) led the Junior Billies to a road victory on Thursday night in Hamburg over the Junior Lions. Hines finished the contest with 55 passing yards and a touchdown and 39 rushing yards. Accelus gained 71 yards on the ground with a touchdown and 35 reception yards wit a touchdown. Rhodes gained 25 yards on the ground with a touchdown and nine reception yards. Rhodes also had a total of 90 kickoff return yards on two returns. On defense, Rhodes was responsible for two interceptions.
