The Monticello Lady Billies Soccer program and the Monticello Billies Baseball program will enter their prospective 4A State Championship Tournaments as the second seeds from their regions.
For the Lady Billies, they had an opportunity in their final conference game of the season to win their second consecutive conference championship, however standing in their way would be the Lady Lumberjacks of Warren.
Monticello needed to win the final conference contest in order to win their second title.
The Lady Billies had their opportunities in the first half, just missing on three goal shots by mere inches,
Both teams would play the 80 minute total game time without scoring a goal with the contest ending in a 0-0 tie.
With the tie, Monticello would fall to second in the conference but would still remain the only Lady Billie team to never suffer a loss in conference play.
Monticello will travel to Harrison for a first round match against Clarksville on Thursday, May 14, at 1 pm.
For the Monticello Billies, the Billies would enter the 4A-4 Regional Tournament as the number one seed from the 8-4A Conference.
Opening the tournament against the fourth seed from the 7-4A, Arkadelphia, the Billies would allow a two-run home run and a triple in the top of the first inning to find themselves down 3-0 after one inning of play.
Monticello would get a run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Crews Preston.
The Billies would trail 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but would come back to tie the contest 6-6 and with bases loaded, Ed Ramos would be hit by a pitch to score TK Hoover for the 7-6 win.
In the second round facing the Nashville Scrappers, the Billies would trail 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning before getting on the board.
The Billies would tie the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning, 4-4 and would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 advantage.
Hovver would finish the contest on the mound for the Billies, holding Nashville scoreless in the top of the seventh to take the 6-4 win.
In the championship game against Magnolia, the Billies would take a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Panthers would come back to overtake the Billies and go on to take the Regional Championship 14-6.
Monticello will travel to Nashville Thursday, May 14, as the second seed from the region and will open the 4A State Tournament at 5:30 pm taking on Harding Academy, the third seed out of the 4A-3 Regional.
