Lady Pirates finish Thanksgiving break with 3-2 overall record

The Drew Central Lady Pirates entered the Thanksgiving Holiday break with an overall record of 3-2 after a 2-2 record in their last four outings.

Travelling to Parkers Chapel on Thursday, November 17, the Lady Pirates would find themselves down after the first quarter after being outscored 10-5.

Parkers Chapel would continue to maintain their lead at the end of the half, outscoring the Lady Pirates 6-5 in the quarter to hold a six point advantage, 16-10, at the break.

The Lady Pirates would come back in the third quarter to outscore Parkers Chapel 16-11 with Parkers Chapel clinging to a one-point, 27-26 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. 

Drew Central would continue their comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Parkers Chapel 18-14 in the fourth to take a 44-41 win.

Hannah Meeks led the way for the Lady Pirates with 11 points followed by Ali Jo Cruce with 10.

Sayveiona Durden added eight, Edriana Hunter with six, and Bailey Chapman and Lana Boykin each scoring three. 

Kaiya Williams scored two with Kalyiah Miller rounding out the scoring with one point.

Returning to the Drew Central Gymnasium on Friday, November 18, to face the Dermott Lady Rams, the Lady Pirates would get off to a solid start in the first quarter behind Hannah Meeks’ five points to take a 14-8 advantage.

Lana Boykin’s six second quarter points off of two three-pointers, helpd the Lady Pirates maintain their lead in the second quarter.

The Lady Pirates would best the Lady Rams by two points in the quarter, 14-12, to take a 28-20 lead into the half.

Dermott was able to shut the Lady Pirates down in the third quarter, allowing the Lady Pirates to only score three points in the quarter while outscoring the Lady Pirates 18-3 to take a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter. 

The Lady Pirates were able to get their offense back on track in the fourth quarter, however, the point spread that the Lady Rams were able to create in the third quarter was too much for the Lady Pirates to overcome despite outscoring Dermott in the fourth quarter 14-10, the Lady Rams would hold on for a three point win, 48-45.

Sayveione Durden would lead the way for the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard with 10 points followed by Hannah Meeks with eight. Edriana Hunter added seven, Bailey Chapman and Lana Boykin with six, and Ali Jo Cruce with four. 

Kaisa Orr scored two points with Kassidie Gilbert and Kaiya WIllims rounding out the scoring with one point each. 

Drew Central would travel to Fountain Lake for the first two days of the Thanksgiving Holiday break to participate in the Fountain Lake Classic. 

Facing off with the host team on Monday, November 21, the Lady Pirates would fall behind early after Fountain Lake outscored the Lady Pirates 12-3 in the first quarter. 

Drew Central produced a better effort in the second quarter with Fountain Lake taking the quarter 12-11 for a 24-14 lead at the break.

Drew Central would fall back in the third quarter with Fountain Lake outscoring Drew Central 12-3 in the third quarter with the Lady Pirates coming back to outscore Fountain Lake 13-4 in the fourth but was not able to overtake Fountain Lake falling by 10 points 40-30.

Drew Central would end the Fountain Lake Classic on a positive note, breaking their two game skid with a  51-34 victory over Mountain Pine. 

After a 13-13 score in the first quarter, the Lady Pirates would take the next two quarters 16-6 and 14-7 with the fourth quarter being even at eight for  the win.

With the win, the Lady Pirates improved to 3-2 on the season and will return to action on Thursday, December 1, to face Star City at home with games starting at 4:30 pm.

Drew Central will host the Mini-State Classic on Friday and Saturday with games on Friday beginning at 4 pm.
