According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, a project for the Monticello Sports Complex was recently awarded to WJ Excavating, a Drew County-based company.
The project will improve pedestrian and sidewalk connectivity at the complex and create a large walking track around the facility.
The contract, which was for $297,080, was awarded after bids were opened on June 4, 2026 and examined by A.L Franks Engineering to ensure bids were in compliance with specifications.
“We have been promoting local contractors and service providers to bid on city projects so that we can keep our money local,” Akers said. “It’s great to see an outstanding local company land this project, and we look forward to the start of it.”
