Lumberjacks retain Union Bank Saline River Shootout trophy

It had been five seasons since the Monticello Billies defeated the Warren Lumberjacks for the Union Bank Saline River Shootout trophy coming into Friday night’s rivalry game at Warren against the Lumberjacks.

Monticello would win the coin toss and defer to the second half and would force the Lumberjacks to punt on their opening drive.

Monticello began their drive at their own 42 and would move the ball to the Warren 13 in four plays.

Hudson Harvey’s first pass of the contest into the endzone would be intercepted to end the drive.

Warren would take advantage of the turnover, driving 80 yards on their possession for the first touchdown of the contest to go up 7-0 after the extra point.

Monticello would start their next drive on their own 20 after the Lumberjack kick went into the endzone.

Joseph Accelus gained two yards to start the drive.

Harvey connected with Kaiden White to keep the drive moving downfield.

Monticello moved the ball to the six with Harvey connecting with Jaxon Rawls for the touchdown.

Jude Parke added the extra point to even the contest at 7.

Warren would get the final score of the first half with 13 seconds remaining in the half to take a 14-7 lead into the break.

Monticello would turn the ball over on the opening drive of the second half after a fumble.

Warren would add a field goal to increase the lead to 17-7.

Neither team could reach the endzone for the remainder of the contest with Warren holding on to the trophy for the sixth consecutive season.

Monticello (2-3, 1-1) will return to Hyatt Field on Friday night for the annual Homecoming contest, hosting the Star City Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1) with a 7 pm kickoff scheduled.
