Our precious dad Lyndell Lloyd Baker, 87, of Monticello, our ‘Pap”, left his earthly home on the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025 at his home surrounded by his three children and a special granddaughter. He went peacefully after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
Lyndell was born on September 3, 1937, in Rohwer to R.A. and Jenny Cornelia Baker.
He was a graduate of Tillar High school and was a veteran of the Arkansas Army National Guard where he was a cook. He always had a passion for cooking. He enjoyed cooking at his family seer camp and for VBS at church.
Lyndell was a farmer by trade and worked on his family’s farm for most of his life. He ran the Texaco station in Dermott for several years in the 1970’s. After retiring from farming, he was the caretaker of Desha/Delta hunting club for many years. The last job he held was driving the golf cart at Drew Memorial Hospital, a job he dearly loved.
Pap loved to sing, he led the singing at both McGehee and Dermott Church of Christ his whole life as well as Monticello after retiring.
He loved to teach people to sing and how to read shape notes. To know Pap was to love him, he never met a stranger.
