Monticello Firefighters Association has received a $8,600.00 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund to support its effort in purchasing a side by side UTV to be used fighting wild land fires and for rescue operations. With the opening of new activities at Lake Monticello, such as the Disc Golf and Mountain Bike Trails, a rescue UTV is required to reach any one who may need medical attention.

Joey Norton, MFA President, said the grant would be used to help fund the fire rescue UTV purchase.

“We have a long way to go as these units are expensive and will require a specialized sled unit that will carry rescue and fire fighting equipment,” Norton said. “If anyone would like to contribute to this fund, MFA is a 501 (c ) (3).”

In both rural and urban settings, the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports hundreds of important organizations and programs in the communities where they operate with funding, time, expertise and resources. Weyerhaeuser made its first charitable donation in 1903 and has provided more than $260 million in grants through its formal giving program, which was established in 1948.

MFA is the fundraising and charitable arm of the Monticello Fire Department. Comprised of local firefighters, MFA's goals are to engage the community with fire education, prevention and protection. MFA has created a scholarship fund at University of Arkansas at Monticello and gives back 100 percent of funds raised through numerous donations and activities.
