On Friday, April 28, Monticello and Drew County lost long time quorum court member and local business woman, Carole Bulloch after a long life of service to the local community.

Born December 4, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Clara Mae and Alden James Thorp of Ballinger, Texas.

Bulloch grew up in Ballinger, where she graduated high school.  She then attended Texas Tech University, where she graduated with a BBA in Marketing and Economics in 1964.  During her collegiate days, she was chosen Miss Austin Aqua Beauty.

In 1967, she married William C. “Bud” Bulloch.  Carole worked as a sales representative for Clairol while they were living in Dallas. She later worked as a sales consultant and representative for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Bulloch always loved Mary Kay Cosmetics.

After moving to Monticello in 1968, she opened The Christmas Shop where she sold her own hand made jewelry and Christmas ornaments.

Bulloch always had an interest in politics, government, and her community. She wanted to be involved in anyway that would allow her to make a difference.  From 1988-1998, she served on the Monticello School Board.  She was one of the first women to serve in that capacity, and served as the President of the board for two of her years in service.

Bulloch was also a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary, and she was a member of First Baptist Church . In the late 1980’s, she joined the Arkansas Travelers for the Clinton campaign.  She was also an active member of the Democratic Women of Arkansas for 35 years.

Bulloch served as a Justice of the Peace for District 4 for 19 years.  Not only was she a member of Drew County’s Quorum Court, but she was appointed to the State Quorum Court Executive Committee where she served as secretary for eight years. In 2008 she was appointed by Gov. Beebe to the Mississippi River Parkway Commission.

Bulloch will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
