The Monticello School Board meeting held on Thursday, June 22, began with a dinner honoring the retirees from the school district.

Arthur Everett, who worked at Monticello School District for 17 years, and Rhonda Trantham, who worked there for 12 years were honored.

The school board meeting began with the election of board officers. The election resulted in keeping the board members’ positions the same as last year. This will leave Curt Preston as president and disbursing officer, Keith Wells Sr. as vice president, Sandra Lanehart as secretary, and Andrew Hilton as the legislative liaison.

The school board approved three purchases as well as a parking lot change order. These three purchases were a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse from Superior Chevrolet of Conway, a three door freezer for $19,098.20, and 840 cases of copy paper for $35,716.24. They received five bids for copy paper and went with the most cost effective.

Also during the meeting, they updated policy sections three and eight. Among these policy updates was the switch from "maternity leave" to "parental leave", making mandatory reporters report anonymously online instead of through fax, and a rule requiring school staff to refer to children by the name on their birth certificate or a nickname.

The next meeting was set for July 20, 2023.
