Nancy Lorraine Wells Stearns, 89, of Monticello, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at The Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation in Monticello. She was born January 15, 1933, in Monticello, to the late Loveless and Nancy Wells.
She was a retired educator and member of Pilgrim Rest AME Church of Monticello. Nancy was a college graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and taught in the Omaha Public School System until her retirement. She loved to cook, was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and loved her long nails that had to be colored on a regular basis. She was the boss! Nancy was always very well put together and stylish. She enjoyed teaching even when she was not in the classroom. Nancy also loved her family very much and enjoyed her time with them. I

n addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Leon Stearns, son Terry Stearns, brothers, Wardell Wells, Hubert Wells, Sr., Edward Wells, LaRone Wells and Andrew Wells; and sisters, Betty Wells Lindsey, Martha Jones and Shirley Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her memories the mother of her grandchildren, Tammy Damper; grandchildren, Shawntel (Jimmy) Wallace, Donja (Sherronda) Damper, Drew Sr. (Deb) Damper, Laron, Marche' and Terrance Damper and Mike Dunn; great grandchildren, Symone, Marcus, Kevin and Alivia Damper, Danielle Spears, Tavion Davis, Drew, Jr., Aniya Damper, De'June Davis and Zoe Creighton; great-great grandchildren, Mya, Michael, Jr. and Samar McMillian and Ashton Damper; and a sister, Doris Wells and a host of nephew's and niece's.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Goodman officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
