Parks Commission hears updates on lake trail

The Lake Monticello walking trail was addressed at the recent Parks Commission meeting, and was estimated to be finished around early May. The work on the looped walking trails is nearly finished, and they are now waiting for approval from the Arkansas Department of Transportation for additional work around the lake.

This meeting was held at the Sports Complex to show the commissioners the progress of the pollinator garden that has been planted the Master Gardeners. Other pollinator gardens have been planted at Jordan Park and Lake Monticello. The location for the garden at the Sports Complex is at the entrance between the one-way road that serves as the entrance and exit to the complex. The Master Gardeners brought to their attention that the trees in the area have begun to decline and need to be removed soon.

Additionally, the meeting was held at the sports complex so that the commission could see what needed to be done in the area as summer sports are beginning. Baseball has already started and softball will begin on April 10, and Miracle League play is scheduled to begin April 11.
