Pirates win four straight contests to improve to 7-1 in conference

The Drew Central Pirates have run off four consecutive victories since dropping their first conference contest against the top 10 ranked Dumas Bobcats on Friday, January 6.

Travelling to McGehee to face the rival Owls on Tuesday, January 10, the Pirates would take the lead in the first quarter, outscoring McGehee 12-9.

The Pirates took control of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring McGehee 28-11 in the quarter to hold a 40-20 lead at the half.

Drew Central would return from the break to outscore McGehee 15-12 in the third and 16-12 in the fourth to take a 71-44 win. 

Tralon Miller would lead the Pirates with 15 points followed by Kade Bodiford and Ja’Corrian Love with 11.

Tra'Bennett Fuller added nine, Drew Burton and Tramond Miller with eight, Nick Bailey with four, Ashton Kelly with three, and David Jordan with two. 

Returning home on Friday, January 13, hosting Lakeside, the Pirates would see three players reach double-digits as the Pirates would defeat Lakeside 68-53.

Tramond Miller led the way with 21 points followed by Drew Burton with 13, and Tra’Bennet Fuller with 10. 

Kade Bodiford added nine, Tralon Miller with seven, Nick Bailey with five, Alex Preddy with two, and Ja’Corrian Love with one.

Travelling to DeWitt on Tuesday, January 17, the Pirates trail 36-29 heading into the fourth quarter but would outscore the Dragons 23-10 in the fourth to take a 52-46 win. 

Drew Burton led the way with 22 points followed by Fuller and Bailey with seven. 

Love and Tralon Miller scored six with Bodiford and Jordan scoring two.

Capping off the four game streak, Tramond Miller would score 23 points followed by Ja’Corrian Love with 14 and Tralon Miller with 10 to lead the Pirates to a 62-57 victory. 

Alex Preddy would score seven, David Jordan with four, and Nick Bailey and Tra'Bennett Fuller with two points each to round out the remaining scorers against Smackove. 

With the wins, the Pirates improve to 15-6 overall and 7-1 in the 8-3A.

The Pirates are currently second in conference play behind the Dumas Bobcats who are 9-0 in conference.
