Quorum Court approves hospital management agreement

Posted

A quorum court meeting was held on Monday, June 12, with all members except Ben Higginbotham and Shelia Maxwell present.

Scott Barrilleaux spoke about the management agreement between Drew Memorial and Baptist Health that was approved by the Drew Memorial Hospital board. Also with him was Tim Ezell from Friday Eldredge and Clark Law Firm.

"It will likely be December before Baptist Health will be ready to transition the hospital to their operation", Ezell said.

The agreement was approved by the quorum court and will take effect starting July 1. There will be a five month period between July and December where Baptist Health will be managing the hospital but Drew Memorial will be the license holder. The sublease agreement, which was approved by both the hospital board and the quorum court, won't take effect until December which will change this.

For this time, the Drew Memorial Hospital Board will still be active. Carl Lucky was reappointed to the board later in the meeting.

Also at the meeting, Shay Holstead with McKinstry Energy gave a presentation on possible energy renovations which could cut costs for the county. Among these renovations, he proposed using solar panels to cut the energy costs.

Some members of the court decided they wanted to see the full contracts before making a decision so the court decided not to act on this currently.

Some other items were considered such as using Big Smith Waste Services, air ambulance contracting, and the purchase of a new trash truck.

Near the end of the meeting, an ordinance was approved for two second class operators which could possibly come from the garbage workers.

The meeting soon after ended with the next meeting scheduled Monday, June 19.
