Sabrina Michelle Sawyer, 55, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, in LittleRock. Born on April 12, 1969, Sabrina was a life long resident of Monticello, and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Sabrina’s sense of adventure was evident from an early age; she was the first girl to play Little League baseball in Monticello and not only did she excel in baseball, but in basketball as well. A 1987 graduate of Monticello High School, Sabrina went on to build a career in bookkeeping at Commercial Bank, where she worked for over twenty-five years. Her warmth and dedication also radiated at the "All Star," where she worked as a bartender and became a beloved, familiar face to everyone who walked through the door. Whether she was riding her motorcycle, skimming across the water in a ski boat, or diving into her next bold adventure,Sabrina lived life with a fearless heart and a compassionate soul.
Sabrina’s loving nature extended deeply to her community, particularly to her four-legged friends. She was a devoted volunteer at the Monticello SecondChance Fur Dogs, frequently driving dogs to their forever homes, ensuring that each one found the love and safety they deserved.
Sabrina carried herself with inspirational strength, facing life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Her adventures were legendary, her humor infectious, and her courage a beacon to all who knew her. She was a woman who never complained, never lost her spark, and never left those around her without a smile. Through her selfless decision to donate her organs, she gave the ultimate gift of life, transforming tragedy into hope and healing for others in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Eugene and Nella Zironi Sawyer, and a special fur baby, Sassy.
She leaves behind her beloved brother, who she adored,Robert Sawyer (Diane) of Woodland Park, CO; three nephews, Hunter Sawyer (Dani) of East Greenbush, N.Y., Nathan Wilkerson stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and Thomas “Jack” Sawyer (Maggie Cebuhar) of Fayetteville; and two nieces, Holly Evans (Ryan) of Colorado Springs, Co., and Emma Sawyer of Fayetteville; along with her best friend, Suzie Flemister; beloved fur babies, Rastus and Napoli; and a host of countless friends whose lives she touched with kindness and laughter. Her bright light may have burned out too soon, but her spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday,November 14, at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 1016 N. Hyatt St, in Monticello, with Father Mark Abban, officiating, followed by interment at the Pleasant Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Monticello. Pallbearers are Jack Sawyer, Jeff Burton, Bobby and Stormy Derryberry, Robert Caveness, Josh West, “B.J.” Brett Arrington, Jr., and Brandon Flemister. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Sawyer, NathanWilkerson, and Ryan Evans.
Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m., on Thursday, at Medders Funeral Home, 1324 Hwy. 278 W, in Monticello, prior to the service.
In honor of her memory, the family asks that donations be made to Monticello Second Chance Fur Dogs, supporting the cause that meant so much to her.
