The SEARK Foster Grandparent Program celebrated two special milestones on Friday, September 12, 2025, the 60th anniversary of the national Foster Grandparent Program and the 45th anniversary of our local program. The program is sponsored by the Southeast Education Service Cooperative.

Currently, 69 Foster Grandparent volunteers serve as “classroom grandparents” in 17 schools across Southeast Arkansas. They provide a caring presence and support to children, helping students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Local leaders, including Drew County Judge Jessie Griffin, Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, Monticello Police Chief Carlos Garcia, and Drew County Sheriff Tim Nichols, joined the celebration to thank the volunteers for their dedication and the difference they make in classrooms and communities.

The SEARK Foster Grandparent Program has been enriching the lives of children and strengthening Southeast Arkansas schools for 45 years, celebrating a legacy of dedication, care, and community impact.
