At 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, Judge Jessie Griffin held a special public meeting for Options, Inc. representatives to present previously requested data to the Quorum Court members.
Danna Carpenter, Director of Options, with support from a large number of Options staff and board members, gave a presentation on Options' services, the areas they cover, and how they are funded. Justices of the Peace Sheila Maxwell, Steve Pigott, Ben Higginbotham, and Frank Appleberry were at the meeting.
Carpenter noted that Options is funded almost exclusively through federal grant money. Ashley County and Drew County Quorum Courts contribute yearly, and private donors also help to offset some of the deficit caused by grants and funding being cut.
This meeting was requested after Options approached the court to see if they could be added to Drew County tax bills as a voluntary donation for taxpayers. The court asked to see the presented information to try and determine how the county can best support Options’ efforts.
The Justices of the Peace who were present will take the information back to the rest of the court members to be discussed prior to next week’s Quorum Court meeting.
