Stephen Alexander Maggard, 70, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Baptist Health Drew County in Monticello. He was born September 2, 1954, in Wichita, Kan. to the late Samuel Alexander Maggard and Judith Lynn Bowling Maggard. Steve was a maintenance man in the Tool Room at Clearwater Papermill in Arkansas City. He was known as Dad, Papaw, and Paps. He was Mr. Fix it, Mr. Build it, Mr. Baseball/Softball coach. He was the world's biggest Texas Rangers fan. He was a coach to many teams over the years. He was so talented and could do anything he wanted to do. Steve was so proud of his kids and grandkids and was always there for them, whether playing in the back yard, watching them play sports, or squirrel hunting he was always there to make the memories.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lisa Maggard; children, Renee Johnson (Matt) of Castle Rock, Wash., Stephen Maggard (Tracy), Jacob Maggard (Whitney), and Jessica Maggard Forrest (Nathan) all of Monticello; grandchildren, Carli Stoner  (Easton) and Ellie Stange (Conner) all of Castle Rock, Wash., Mason Maggard, Chase Maggard, Audrey Howard, Bentley Maggard, Cruz Maggard, John Ryan Forrest, and Avery Jewel Forrest, all of Monticello; four great grandchildren; siblings, Phillip Maggard (Alma) of Winterhaven, Fla., Dianna Duke (Duane) of Harrah, Okla., and Paul Maggard (Bonnie) of Wiggins, Miss.; nine nieces and nephews; and a host of softball kids, baseball kid, family, and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, May 5, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date at a ball field somewhere as he wished. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Maggard, Jacob Maggard, Nathan Forrest, Matt Johnson, Phillip Maggard, Paul Maggard, and Duane Duke.
