Town and Country Quilters EHC donate to local library

Posted

Every year, Town and Country Quilters Extension Homemakers Club select a project to fulfill their responsibility to community service. This year, Evelyn Lawson suggested the club direct a project to supporting the local library because the COVID-19 pandemic precluded the possibility of the former Chocolate Extravaganza. The club decided to design and create a quilt to donate to the library for fundraising. The club voted on a Showering Stars pattern to adapt for the project and then designed additions to enlarge the finished quilt to an appropriate size for a queen size bed cover.

Several monthly workdays were devoted to creating the quilt top, and additional hours spent quilting, binding, and attaching a sleeve to the back of the quilt to provide an opportunity for displaying the quilt vertically. The quilt was on display in the recent Delta Quilt Show held at UAM and took the first-place prize in the Viewers’ Choice Awards.

On 7 November, club members attended the Friends of the Library board meeting to present the board with the results of their efforts. Club Treasurer, Judy Murphy, provided an introduction explaining the organization of Arkansas EHC, their goals, and their local efforts.
