Union Bank continues downtown beautification project

Posted

Over the past year, Union Bank and Trust has completed several projects to help maintain the allure of Monticello’s historic downtown area.

The bank has engaged with the local Master Gardners to plant flowers in the concrete planters along all sides of the square.

They also collaborated with art students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello to begin the mural project that is a few blocks East of the square on McCloy Street.

Most recently, Union Bank has begun ordering and hanging welcome banners with the local school logos around the square.

“Since our main bank is in the historical downtown area, we were brainstorming ideas for beautification projects to help restore and preserve our community,” Gail Hooker, Vice President and Trust Officer stated. “Union Bank strives to be involved in our community and to give back to our customers to show our appreciation. We are in hopes that the beautification projects will be contagious and more businesses will participate in future projects.”

With the help of the City of Monticello employees and others, the first banners can be seen beside the South side of the building.

As a hometown bank, we search for opportunities to invest in our community.,” Hooker said. “We are proud to have designed the four new banners displayed in front of our bank.  We would like to extend the opportunity for residents and local businesses to participant in our banner campaign.  When working together, we would enhance our town by showing our Hometown Pride.”

If you would like to help purchase banners or donate, please send the funds to Union Bank c/o Gail Hooker, PO Box 270, Monticello AR 71657.  By raising enough funds for 25 or more, the cost will be around $100.00 for a banner and bracket.
