The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils finished up a two game road stint on Saturday, October 14, travelling to Russellville to face the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys.

Arkansas Tech and UAM would come into the contest with matching Great American Conference records at 2-4.

For the Weevils, UAM opened the season by winning their first two contests, but came into Saturday’s contest having lost four in a row.

Having won the coin toss to begin the contest, UAM elected to receive the football to begin the contest.

Arkansas Tech would kick the ball off 49 yards where Arlie Lee would receive the kick, bringing the ball back 14 yards where he was tackled by former Monticello Billie, Nichalon Smith, at the UAM 30.

Quarterback Buddy Taylor would get UAM started in a positive direction, completing his first pass of the contest for an 11-yard gain to Nick Howard for the first down.

After moving the ball to the UAM 45, the drive would end on a sack of Taylor back at the UAM 38, forcing the Weevils to punt the ball away.

Zachary Grissotti’s punt would travel 33 yards for no return to give Arkansas Tech possession at their own 29.

Tech would gain a first down in three plays to the Tech 41.

On the next play, Tech Quarterback Taye Gatewood connected with Deuce Wise for a 10-yard gain to the UAM 49 but a hit by UAM’s Michael McCorvey forced a fumble that was recovered by Greg Hooks for the first turnover of the contest at the UAM 49.

UAM would move the ball into Arkansas Tech territory on the first play of the drive on an 18-yard gain with a completed pass to Arlie Lee from Buddy Taylor to the Tech 33.

UAM would advance the ball to the Tech 13 before a false start penalty forced the ball back five yards to set up 3rd and 9.

After an incomplete pass, the Weevils would send Grissotti out to attempt a 35-yard field goal that would miss the mark with 7:44 remaining in the first quarter.

Neither team would reach the endzone in the first quarter with the score tied at zero.

UAM would remain in possession of the football to begin the second quarter, advancing the ball to the Tech four yard line before turning the ball over on downs.

Arkansas Tech would begin their first drive of the quarter at their own four and would cover the 96 yards for the first score of the contest on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Gatewood to Jordan Jackson.

After the extra point the Wonder Boys led 7-0.

UAM would cut the lead to 7-3 on their next possession after  beginning their drive at their own 25, driving down to the Tech six with Grissotti connecting on a 23-yard field goal.

Tech would extend the lead to 10-3 as time expired to end the half on a 33-yard field goal by Austin Hosier.

Tech would add to their score on the first possession of the third quarter, scoring on a one-yard run by Jordan Edington.

After the extra point, Tech led 17-3.

After an interception gave the ball back to the Wonder Boys, Tech would get their final score of the contest to increase their lead to 24-3 after a two-yard run by Deuce Wise and an extra point.

UAM would get their only touchdown of the contest in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run by Arlie Lee and an extra point by Grissotti to set up the final score of 24-10.

With the loss the Weevils fall to 2-5 with Tech improving to 3-4.

UAM will return to Convoy Leslie Cotton Bowl Stadium on Saturday, October 21, to face the Henderson State Reddies for a 2 pm kick off.

Henderson State comes into the contest with a 5-2 record and are currently in fourth position in the GAC rankings.
