Wreaths Across America

Col. David Love Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution called the December 17 Wreaths Across America wreath laying at Oakland Cemetery a success.  The first year's effort brought recognition and remembrance to over 300 veterans.  Volunteers, family, and friends laid wreaths on veteran' graves   from every war from the Civil War to World War I and II, Korea, Viet Nam,  Persian Gulf, and Afghanistan.

Next year's effort is already underway with the goal to honor the more than 500 veterans interred at Oakland.  Wreaths may be ordered all year long for placement this December.

To complete the cycle, the wreaths will be picked up Saturday, January 14 at 10 a.m.  Volunteers are needed to help retrieve the wreaths and once again say the veteran's name.  To volunteer, please come to the Oakland Cemetery that morning.  Call Louisa Smith 870-723-3560 or Sandy Funderburg 870-723-4945.
