The weatherman predicted cold,
But, snug in coats, we ventured bold
To Oakland Cemetery to lay wreaths
Where soldiers from our city sleep.
The wreaths were flown in from afar
To honor those who fought in wars
Or kept our country safe to be
Always a land of liberty.
Six hundred-fifty veterans here
Left hearth and home, their mindset clear,
To do their part to keep us free,
Then come back home to family.
Some sacrificed their lives for us
And, dying, gave it all with trust
That their children might have safer times
For future years where Freedom chimes!
And as we place the wreaths so green,
A thankful symbol to be seen
