14th Annual Commercial Bank Holiday Tournament comes to a close

The 14th Annual Commercial Bank Holiday tournament closed out the first half of the 2023 Basketball Season over three days at Drew Central High School, December 27 through December 29.

For the girls, the teams would participate in a traditional bracket format.

On day one, the Monticello Lady Billies would open the tournament with a 68-55 loss to Rison with Lady Billie, Zariyah Gaston leading the Lady Billies with 19 points. 

White Hall defeated Crossett 48-12, Warren defeated Junction City 46-19, and Drew Central advanced over Dermott 64-12.

In girls action on the second day, the Lady Billies advanced in the consolation bracket with a 56-24 win over Crossett with Gemma Walker scoring 14 points.

Junction City defeated Dermott 43-38.

Rison advanced to the finals with a 50-46 win over White Hall and Drew Central advancing to the finals with a 60-45 win over Warren. 

On the final day of the girls bracket, Monticello would be led by Gaston with 18 points in a 48-8 win over Dermott and White Hall defeated Warren 45-39.

In the Championship contest, The Rison Lady Wildcats would take home the Championship Plaque with a 43-41 win over the Lady Pirates. 

The boys would play in single contests over the three day tournament with Monticello falling to McGehee 58-57, Dermott 59-49, and defeating Rison 67-25.

McGhee defeated Monticello, Hamburg 64-55, and Rison, 71-23.

Hamburg would defeat Dermott 67-60, Drew Central 67-60, and would fall to Mcgehee. 

The Pirates would get a win over Rison, 62-32, would lose to Hamburg, and would defeat Dermott, 54-44, in the final game of the tournament. 

Monticello and Drew Central begin conference play with Monticello at home against Warren on Wednesday at 5:30 pm and Drew Central traveling to Dumas on Friday for a  5 pm tip.
