Blossoms defeat Newman University for first win of the season

After finishing the 2023 season with a record of 1-27, with the only win of the season coming at toward the end of the season, the 2024 Blossoms under new head coach Arlicia Ortiz have gotten themselves in the win column in their fourth match of the season. 

Participating in the St. Edwards University Tournament, the Blossoms would drop their first two matches of the tournament on the first day of the tournament held in Austin, Texas on Friday, September 6.

Opening against St. Edwards, the Blossoms would drop the contest in three consecutive sets 27-25, 20-11, and 25-20.

The Blossoms would return to the court on Friday to face the University of Illinois Springfield. 

The Blossoms would once again find themselves falling in three consecutive sets by the scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-18.

Returning for their first match on Saturday, September 7, at 9 am, the Blossoms would face Purdue University Northwest in four sets. 

Purdue would take the first two sets of the match 25-19 and 25-18 before the Blossoms would win their first set of the season with a score of 26-24 before falling in the final set 25-20 to give Purdue the match 3-1.

Returning for the 4:30 pm match against Newman University, the Blossoms would pick up their first win of the 2024 season in their final match of the tournament.

UAM and Newman split the first four sets with UAM winning the first and fourth sets, 25-17 and 25-14, with Newman taking sets two and three, 27-25 and 25-12, with the Blossoms taking the final set 15-11.
