The Drew Central Pirates took to the road for the second time in two weeks for a non conference contest, traveling to West Helena to face the undefeated Helena-Central Cougars in the rain soaked field conditions on Friday night.
Drew central would open the contest with an onside kick that was recovered by the Pirates and immediately began to move the ball down field on the legs of Kalani Collins.
The Pirates would find the endzone on a 29-yard pass from Zae Bullard to Jayden Jones but the play would be called back for a holding penalty.
It would be the only time in the contest that the Pirates would reach the goal line.
Penalties and bad snaps would haunt the Pirates all night on the rain soaked field.
The Pirates would lose yardage throughout the contests due to the penalties and snaps over the quarterback’s head.
Helena was able to take advantage of these penalties with every scoring drive for Helena beginning at the 50 yard line or in Pirate territory.
The Cougars would score in each of the first three quarters, shutting out the Pirates 26-0 to improve to 3-0 on the season with Drew Central falling to 0-3.
The Pirates will enter a bye week before returning to action on Friday, September 27, traveling to McGehee to face the McGehee Owls for their first conference contest of the season.
